Biography

Lisa-Marleen Buchholz is a German jazz trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer, who was born and grew up in Berlin.  

In 2023 she finished her trumpet studies at the Jazz Institute Berlin. There she received lessons from the international  renowned trumpeters Bastian Stein, Sebastian Studnitzky, Dominik Gaus and the Berlin Philharmonic Andre Schoch. 

Already in the first semester of her studies, the Berlin trumpeter   achieved a place in the highly regarded German federal jazz orchestra.   As a member of this orchestra (in the 2018/19 line-up) she undertook extensive tours to the USA, Canada, England, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Albania, Montenegro and the Netherlands and played concerts in cooperation with the WDR Big Band, Randy Brecker, Django Bates, Ansgar Striepens, Steffen Schorn, Nils Klein and Jiggs Whigham. In addition, she was part of the state youth jazz orchestras of Brandenburg, Hamburg and Berlin.

Lisa Buchholz has already worked with a wide variety of jazz formations and big bands, such as the JazzBaltica All Star Band in cooperation with Nils Landgren or the Gaststätte zum Heißen Hirten.

But the young trumpeter and flugelhorn player also feels comfortable in other genres. She has played gigs with Tom Jones, Revolverheld or the indie pop band Von wegen Lisbeth.

 

She currently plays and composes primarily for her own jazz sextet NIOKAT. But she also plays regularly as a guest musician for the Deutsche Oper Berlin and with the successful pop-rock band AnnenMayKantereit.

Since 2020 she has been the official artist of the renowned Dutch trumpet and flugelhorn manufacturer Van Laar.
